I think the most important point of this is that all these modern revivals are based off a fictitious idea of the Middle Ages; current medievalism doesn’t seek to represent nor recreate historically accurate medieval ideals, but to reinterpret the aesthetic elements culturally associated with these times. Although I think it fundamentally comes from a place of avoidance (of reality) and as an answer to the minimalist aesthetic, it certainly accompanies the fact that state power seem to be fagmenting, taking us back to something somewhat similar to a feudal society...

I think the poem you mention, The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Tennyson, is a very lovely read, specially for those interested in Arthurian legends.
